New General Surgeon Joins Roxborough Memorial Hospital

Philadelphia, PA (July 20,2020) – Dr Alexander Knijnikov, a board-certified general surgeon, with additional fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic, bariatric (weight-loss), and robotic surgery, has joined Suburban Surgical Specialists at Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Knijnikov has many years of general surgery experience, including gallbladder and hernia surgery as well as colon surgery for common ailments such as diverticulitis and colon cancer. His advanced training allows him to perform many of these surgeries in a minimally invasive manner using tiny incisions.

Dr Knijnikov is an experienced robotic surgeon, which allows for an even better minimally invasive surgical experience, resulting in less pain, less blood loss, and a shorter hospital stay as well as a quicker return to work. Additionally, robotic surgery, in some cases, allows surgery to be performed through one tiny incision, nearly completely hidden in the belly button.

“As a general surgeon, I have the opportunity to treat patients with various medical conditions that require surgery,” said Dr. Knijnikov, who has received numerous honors and has been widely published. “I am honored to become a member of the medical staff of a well-established hospital such as Roxborough Memorial Hospital. I can give local patients more options to get the best care available at a multi-disciplinary facility that also provides the comfort and confidence of being close to home."

Dr. Knijnikov received his medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed a general surgery residency at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, in New York City, where he served as chief surgical resident. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery consisting of advanced laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery at NYU Winthrop University Hospital.

Dr. Knijnikov is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, American College of Surgeons, Clinical Robotic Surgery Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Iota Chapter of the PSI Sigma Alpha National Honor Social (top 15% of the class)

Dr. Knijnikov is well published and has presented at numerous surgical conferences, both nationally and at the local level. He recently started a bariatric surgery program at Inspira Woodbury hospital in N.J. and served as the director of the program, as well as playing a critical role in growing the hospital’s robotic surgery program during his tenure there.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Knijnikov to our medical staff and to Suburban Surgical Specialists at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. His addition to our team means that our community now has local, convenient access to an experienced fellowship trained general surgeon versed in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery,” said Dr. Patrick Lenahen, CMO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

Roxborough Memorial Hospital CEO Matt Shelak said, “The hospital is pleased to welcome an extremely talented and experienced surgeon to its growing surgery program.”

Dr. Knijnikov is currently accepting new patients at Suburban Surgical Specialists at Roxborough Memorial Hospital on 5735 Ridge Avenue, Suite 104, Philadelphia, PA 19128. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (215) 487-4532
