Program Purpose & Goals
Purpose
The purpose of the nursing program at Roxborough Memorial Hospital
School of Nursing is to educate nurses who will be prepared to enter
professional nursing practice as competent and efficient practitioners.
Graduates of the School have a broad understanding of population-based
health care and have been afforded the opportunity to care for
individuals, families, and communities in a variety of clinical
settings. Graduates possess contemporary clinical skills and knowledge
based on the latest nursing research.
Program Goals
At the completion of the educational program, the graduate will be
able to:
- Apply evidence-based knowledge from nursing and the sciences as
the basis for nursing practice.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to make sound decisions within
a complex spectrum of primary, secondary, and tertiary health care
settings.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other
members of the interdisciplinary health care team to develop a
comprehensive and effective plan of care.
- Provide safe and efficient nursing care across the continuum of
care that is both high quality and cost-effective.
- Foster strategies for health promotion, risk reduction, and
disease prevention across the life span.
- Use information and communication technologies to document and
evaluate patient care, advance patient education, and enhance the
accessibility of care.
- Provide care sensitive to the needs of clients with emphasis on
effects of culture, race, religion, gender, lifestyle, and age.
- Apply a decision-making framework to clinical situations that
incorporates ethical, legal, and professional practice standards
that respect diverse values and beliefs.
- Demonstrate a commitment to nursing through personal goals for
professional development and participation in life-long learning.
